Welcome to "Saving Throws & Woes: Character Death and Resilience in Dungeons and Dragons"!

Thank you for your interest! You are being asked to voluntarily participate in a research study. We are doing this study to examine the experiences of character death in Dungeons and Dragons campaigns in order to shed light on the resilience processes that occur as a result. Those who qualify to participate in this study are those who 1.) are between 18 and 65 years old, 2.) have played Dungeons and Dragons in the last two years, and 3.) have experienced the death of your own character or another party member’s character in a campaign.

If you agree, you will move on to complete an approximately 15-minute anonymous survey recounting your experience with the character death, including the degree to which you identify with this character, your perceived stress in response to the death, and the resilience behaviors you engaged in afterward.

We will not record your name or any information that shows your identity, and thus you will not be signing this form or indicating your name or personal information. Further, you will not be contacted again in the future.

You should only take part in this study if you want to volunteer. You should not feel that there is any pressure to take part in the study; you are free to participate in this research, and you have the right to withdraw at any point during the study, for any reason, and without any prejudice. No compensation will be awarded for being in this study.

If you have any questions, please contact Sarah Stacy (primary contact) via email (sarah.stacy@tcu.edu) or Dr. Andrew Ledbetter (a.ledbetter@tcu.edu).

By selecting "Agree to participate" below, you are agreeing to be in this study and confirming that you meet the 3 eligibility criteria listed above. Make sure you understand what the study is about before you agree, either by asking the researchers questions or reading the study information presented above. You will be given a copy of this document for your records upon request.
